Ten Essentials of Gore Cinema

Doing some research through different specialists of gore cinema we found the ten essential movies for gore cinema.

1. The Burning Moon (Olaf Ittenbach, 1977)
This German ultra-gore movie has been attacked by the catholic church. It is about an old brother telling bedtime stories to his younger sister, working as an anthology of two horror stories. One story is about a psychiatric person that escapes from the hospital. The second story is about a priest who commits crimes by framing an autistic.


2. Men Behind the Sun (Mou Tun-Fei, 1988)
This Chinese movie was made with the objective to show the atrocities committed by Japanese soldiers during their invasion in world war II.


3. Martyrs (Pascal Laugier, 2008)
This french horror film was premiered in Cannes film festival on 2008. It is about Lucy a girl who escapes from a lonely building where she was been abused. After being accepted into an orphanage she will start to feel threatened by a woman with scars.


4. Guinea pig (VA, 1985-1992)
This movie was made popular in 1992 when the actor Charlie Sheen saw it though it was a real snuff movie immediately he called to the FBI and then they discovered it was only a Japenese movie. Guinea pig is a series of six movies: The devil's experiment, flower of flesh and blood, he never dies, mermaid in a man hole, Android of Notredame, Devil woman doctor.

5. Braindead (Peter Jackson, 1993)
This horror comedy cult movie it's about Lionel who tries to protect her mother even though she has been transformed into a zombie!


6. Trouble Every day (Claire Denis, 2001)
French erotic horror film about a recently married couple that feel like being cannibal every time is time to "shake the bottle"


7. Grotesque (Koji Shiraishi, 2009)
A Japenese movie that crosses the line of cruelty. It is about a kidnaped couple tortured by a mad man.



8. Subconscious Cruelty (Karim Hussain, 2000)
A movie made of imagery elements that invites to philosophical thinking about humankind life and death. 



9. Blood Feast (Herschell Gordon Lewis, 1963)
This movie is considered the first gore movie. Blood feast tells the story of a series of murders where the victims are all young beautiful women where they've been amputated.



10. Cannibal Holocaust (Ruggero Deodato, 1980)
This is an Italian movie in the style of a Found Footage. Cannibal Holocaust tells the story of a group of explorers showing the horrors of the amazons
